White Specks On Trex Transcend Deck

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Updated by user Feb 01, 2022

Trex is offering board replacement only. No labor, fasteners, post covers.

No coverage for cost of demolition. So we have a two year old deck with defective boards that we will essentially have to pay all labor costs to replace. So much for good customer service.

Buyer beware….do not purchase Trex Transcend decking. The customer “service” rep we are dealing with admitted that this issue has not been resolved in the tropical colors line.

Original review Nov 13, 2021
We have the same issue as detailed in other posts.white specks on our new (one year old) Trex Transcend deck. It looks fine when wet, like it has white powder on it when dry. Trex stopped manufacturing the Firepit color we have shortly after our deck was installed. Dont know if there is a connection between that and this white speck issue. My contractor is looking into this with his supplier. I would appreciate hearing if anyone with this problem has had a resolution. I will post any information I get regarding our situation. I am also a very pissed consumer.

Trex Enhance Naturals scalloped boards are bending/warping

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Aug 2021 New deck constructed using 20ft long Trex Enhance Naturals Toasted Sand scalloped boards w/grooved edge (14'x21' w/stairs down one level). Installed on substructure built w/2x12's spaced 16" on center and 6x6 posts. Used Trex Fastener System to secure boards. Also installed 1x12 fascia around deck and stairs. Boards bend between joists warp up at ends. Suggestions?

Pros:
  • Good color selection
Cons:
  • Enhanced line of scalloped boards will bend and warp

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution

User's recommendation: Worth upgrading to square boards with Select or Transcend

Our contractor put Trex Enhance Natural boards down on Friday. When he returned today, they had sagged over the weekend between the joists - even one area where they where 8" apart!

Temps were 32 to 55 so should not have been hot enough to make any "melting" (as the contractor put it) of the boards.

Ripping them out and replacing with Trex Select. Those grooves on the bottom may make it cheaper but they do not stay rigid.

Experience terrible. Ordered Trex Select in April of this year. Still not delivered.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Ordered $7000.00 worth of Trex decking in April of this year on the basis that delivery would take approximately 2 weeks. Today is July 10th and not yet delivered. Every time I call it is the same answer: "your order is on its way, you will receive it in two weeks". I believe the technique is called "bait and switch". Very dishonest company. To be avoided.

TREX Plank Warping

TREX Plank Warping
Every TREX plank started warping at the ends within a year. What a debacle! What is the fix? We live in Bay County Florida. Not sure if that makes a difference.

I have same issue. Warping ends has made the deck a fall hazard.

This deck replaced previous Trex deck that was due to defective product.

Class action suit won. Looks like it was replaced by more bad decking.

good luck same things happening to our 2 mo. old deck.

They say it was installed wrong. What a joke , we all have ti file another class action suit against these ***

looks like the joists are not 16" on center. cant tell from the photo.

if they are not, it is to big of a gap between joist. Trex cant be installed on joists any wider than 16"

Joists look further apart than 16 inches. That's a fail by installer, not materials. Butt joints should have been done with a biscuit joiner.

Howling deck! We also have this issue! It’s absolutely maddening. We build a Parade home just over a year ago and no one could tell us why we kept hearing this noise whenever the wind blows.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Finally the builder figured out its from wind coming up through the deck. We now have a bunch of plastic stapled under our 1. 2 million dollar house! NOT A FIX! We live on 6 acres and the neighbors have come over to find out why this noise is coming from our house! I want it fixed! Trek should fix this problem ASAP!

Delivery dates keep changing.

Bought Trex deck boards through Lowe's on Dec 3rd. Since then delivery date has changed 3 times. Now looking at February 20. Was hoping Trex would have a better idea of when materials would be delivered, but they were unable to determine via Lowe's order number and invoice.

It would take the Army Corp of Engineers to install this fascia as they suggest. If ALL instructions are not followed they will not refund. Terrible product from an otherwise good company..

Original review Jun 20, 2020
We used the Trex fascia 1 by 12 boards on our deck. 100% worthless product!! I have a 30" long piece that's warped 1/2 inch. It pulled all mounting screws out of 1 by 10 outer sill board. If you look down the side of the long pieces you could use it as a roller coaster ride. My dealer is very long on promises but very short on delivery. I keep hearing, "Trex will take care of it". But nothing happens. I've since talked to several builders who told me, "Never use this fascia product, you'll be sorry". I am. KJG

Question about the Trex Signature railing panels

We recently purchased 2 Signature railing panels, 6 foot and 8 foot. We have the posts installed and are going to install the railing panels, but we noticed the top and bottom rails are different lengths by an inch on each end. Why is that? We read the instructions on cutting them to fit our specific opening, and it doesn't say anything about the length being different between the top and bottom rails. Can you tell us why the lengths are different and if we need to worry about it?

I hate it!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
We had a deck installed with Trex Transcend (their top quality). We also live in north Idaho where we have many pine trees which produce a lot of green pollen. The grain is so deep in Trex Transcend that I cannot get the pollen out even using a brush. We used a different company (Azek) on other decks and they are really easy to clean. I wish I had never gotten Trex. What a hassle trying to clean it. We have had it for five years and I have NEVER been able to get it clean.

I agree completely. I cannot get this trex stuff clean.

What I would give for having my old wooden deck back. We spent $24,000 on this disaster two years ago.

Don’t buy please. You will regret it every time you look at it.

I completed and submitted a warranty claim to Trex on Sunday. I have not yet heard back. Trex planks installed 20 years ago have swollen and cracked. The swelling produces a pooling of water on the deck surface. Water damage has resulted to the deck underlying structure and to the house at points of connection.
